This is the question? Maybe you think they are just interfering, but what if they are working on your dream job? Sometimes when I announce ‘I’m calling from an executive search firm’ you get an immediate ‘not interested’ – is this sensible? what is your ‘market value’, do you know? was it desk top research that brought the recruiter to you or a client recommendation? How will you know if you don’t take the call?
Do be careful though, work out the true headhunters from those ‘claiming’ to be – follow these pointers:-
Ask if they are handling the job exclusively
Ask for a job specification
Ask what they know about you
Ask how they found out about you
If they seem genuine, then what is the harm in some market knowledge and maybe a coffee to hear more? 90% of the people I place are not ‘actively looking’ what does that tell you?
